Who is Matt?
Let me give you a brief introduction about me and what training with me is all about. My name is Matt Dowse and I am a Level Three qualified personal trainer in South West London. I work with a variety of clients who are aiming to achieve a wide range of goals including (but not limited to) weight loss, gaining lean muscle mass, gaining strength, and general lifestyle improvement.
More specifically I am currently planning and implementing the progression from half-ironman distance triathlon to full ironman, and also an improvement of 5k and 10k running race times.
Having been born and brought up in North Kent/South East London, I moved to Richmond in the early 1990's to progress my rugby career and have lived in this area of London ever since. I worked in the City as a Reinsurance Broker after leaving school. During this time I juggled City life with that as a semi-professional rugby player at Richmond and then Rosslyn Park during the winters and cricket with Beckenham in the Kent Leagues during the summers. These days, although I am still involved, rugby has taken a back seat and I find my energies are channeled in to cycling - mainly to raise money for charity - in particular, USA Coast to Coast 2008, London to San Sebastian (Spain) 2010), Land's End to John O'Groats to London 2011.
As a Personal Trainer, I have been qualified now for well over 10 years, originally as an ACSM Exercise Leader then as a Level Three CVQ at Virgin Active (since 2009). Through these qualifications and my experience of training as a sportsman in sessions with my clients we use wide variety of kit including kettlebells, TRX, bungee cords, we can use powerplates, ViPr's and battling ropes. So, really there is no excuse for stagnation - goalsetting is the key - define where you want to get to and then training immediately has purpose and direction
