The Whirly wine shop opened in October 2015. Its all about quality here at the wine shop rather then quantity. I source all the wines myself by travelling into lesser known wine regions and finding wines from the smaller producer. These journeys take time but it means I know much more about each wine than most independent wine merchants, and these stories and history of the wine and the vines is I think vital for me to pass onto you the buyer when you come into the shop.

Whirly wine is a small, personalised business and Mr Whirly believes that each sale is something very personal to each customer. So I do not have a website that allows you to book online. Either email me or pick up the phone and lets talk through what kind of wines make you excited!
So Why Whirly?
Sitting in Quince, a superb restaurant in San Francisco just before Easter 2005 bought it all home to me. Tasting a half bottle of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from Oregon with some Riedel Burgundy Grand Cru glasses, I found myself “ Whirling “ the wine frantically and excitedly at great speed, and with such great, deep glasses there was not a chance of any being spilt! In order for a wine to qualify as a “ Whirly Wine” this is the kind of passion and joy I need to feel about the wine.
In the nineties I spent seven years managing Bibendum restaurant, where, working with one of the best wine lists and menus in the UK, I learnt the importance of matching food and wines and how much fun this can be. In 1999 I left to work a vintage in Barossa, South Australia and travel the vineyards of Australia in an old Ford Falcon Station wagon, from Mudgee, New South Wales across to The Great Southern and Margaret River vineyards of Western Australia. This “hands on” experience was paramount in understanding the extraordinary range of varietals available in Australia as well as the extraordinary quality of wines coming out of these individual vineyards.
